Horse Racing
Bookmakers Sportingbet have decided to bring customers an excellent betting offer for the Ebor Festival at York Racecourse. Starting on Wednesday 17th August the Ebor Festival brings 4 days of top class horse racing with races including the Nunthorpe Stakes and the Ebor itself. To celebrate the fact that Sportingbet are sponsoring several of the races in the Ebor Festival they have decided to offer customers a fantastic money back refund betting offer which will be valid for every race of the festival.
This betting offer really is superb and very generous and, as we said, applies to every race of the Ebor Festival. All you need to do is back your selections before the start of the race with the bet being of at least £5. Then if you selection gets beat by half a length or less then Sportingbet will refund the stake up to £25 in the form of a free bet. It doesn’t matter which position your horses finishes, just as long as it loses by half a length or less then you get your stake back.
On top of that if you aren’t already a Sportingbet customer you can sign up and qualify for £100 in free bets. Sign up by using the direct link at the bottom of this and then all you need to do is place 4 qualifying bets that can be placed in any order you wish. The 4 bets need to be placed within 30 days of you opening the account and each one can get you a Sportingbet Free Bet of £25 each and a total of £100 in free bets. The bets you need to make are as follows, place one single bet of at least £10 and Sportingbet will match that stake with a free bet of up to £25. Then place a double bet, treble and a 4-fold bet all of at least £10 and again, Sportingbet will match each one with a free bet of up to £25. This Sportingbet free bet offer rewards loyalty and is easy to claim with no Sportingbet promotional code needed, just place you bets and get you free bets.

A Simple Way to Rate a Race
3rd April 2011
Hello everyone,
We’ve had some inquiries about the rating a race method I mentioned which uses the TS, PRP and OR ratings.
So this a simple method that anyone can use to quickly rate race.
Its no hidden secret but can be very handy and a method I use myself.
So first things first, pop your self over to the Racing Post website.
This method works around the OR, TS and RPR ratings so can still be used even if your havent subscribed to the Racing Post.
OK, so find a race where all horses have OR, TS and RPR all filled. Like the one in the picture.
Once you have done that select all the information from No1 down to the last PRP rating.
Copy all this information into a spreadsheet, this is where all the fun begins.
- Calculate the total of each column
- Divide each total by the number of runners (this will give you an average)
- Now subtract the horses ratings from the average
- Once you have done all 3 add these figures together
You now have a race rated in no time at all.
Lets take a look at the example race above if you’d done the above calculation you’d be left with the following top 3 rated and bottom 2
Polly´s Mark 39
Gertrude Bell 29
Gallic Star 26
On Terms -49
On Khee -53
Now lets look at the result
As you can see our top rated finished 2nd by a head and our second rated won. You could even looking at laying On Terms, On Khee was a NR.
So there you go easy isnt it?
Obviously you could use this in a variety of ways maybe back the top rated, dutch the top selections or lay the worst rated. You can even us it as a starting point and concentrate your form reading on the top 3.
To follow this up I may try and do a short video just to make it easier plus i’ve knocked up a ready made spreadsheet for you.
If you pop over to anothermillionairequest.blogpspot.com and go to downloads you can get a copy of the SimpleRatings spreadsheet.
All you have to do is paste in the information in cell A3 and maybe drag down the formulas for the scores columns if your rating bigger fields.
Good Luck,
Until next time,
Simon

As I mentioned previously, I have only been seriously involved with horse racing and Betfair since late 2007, so please bear in mind I was still a complete newbie on 30 November 2007 when for reasons I cannot remember I backed a rank outsider at Newbury priced at 600 on Betfair (599/1).
This was Lord Appellare. I think I was attracted by his name more than anything! I certainly had not analysed form, trainer, jockey etc.
Anyway, you can almost guess the rest! I sat there watching the Betfair screen as the race started and Lord Appellare’s price began to shorten….and shorten…..and shorten…..at one point I think he was trading at around 4.0…..but of course Iwas just expecting the unthinkable that he was going to win! I was already mentally calculating my profit from a minimum stake….
As the race finished he was beaten into second place by 6 lengths but I have never forgotten the adrenaline rush he gave me in that race.
Of course I hadn´t realised that I should have traded out when his price was around 4.0 but that was at a time when I had yet to discover “greening up”.
The horse has run a few times since and I won a bit of money when he finished 2nd at Fakenham a couple of months later. Sadly he hasn’t raced since January 2010 so maybe his days are over but certainly I will always remember him!
You can see his track record here at the Racing Post:

Next time I’ve got some advice about laying horses and how to spot the flaws in laying systems!
Happy punting

I wonder if anyone else has experienced that awful feeling when you fully intend to place a bet but for some reason forget to do so and then have to suffer watching a race “just knowing” your selection is going to win…usually at a long price as well just to rub salt into the wound.
This happened to me with this year’s Grand National. For weeks, I had a feeling about Ballabriggs but never seemed to find the time to get the bet on. I recall looking at his price on Betfair the day before when he was trading around 20 and thinking I mustn’t forget to place the bet.
I suppose I was waiting to see if the market was going to support him or not on the big day. I was at work on the day and kept telling myself to get down to the bookies at lunchtime when I think he was still available at around 18/1. But no, I got involved with running the office sweepstake and missed the bet.
Mind you, it can work the other way as well. I also layed Drill Sergeant in that infamous race at Haydock last October with AP on board. Remember how Drill Sergeant took a commanding lead and then virtually stopped (to let the others catch him up I suppose) before starting again last but going on to win!
Some system I was following told me to lay Drill Sergeant which I duly did only to get that sinking feeling as he took what looked to be an unassailable lead. When he stopped for a breather, his Betfair price jumped to around 14 and I traded out double quick which as it turned out was just as well.
Next week, I’ve got a story about a certain Lord Appellare who would have made me a small fortune in November 2007 if I had only appreciated how to take advantage of Betfair price movement (still a Betfair newbie at the time) instead of being mesmorised by “watching” the race on my Betfair screen.
Wishing you a profitable week

With the Aintree Grand National quickly approaching you would be forgiven for thinking you could wake up on Grand National morning go online and be offered a whole host of Grand National free bets and betting offers. Well, due to so many ‘once a year’ gamblers betting on the Grand National alot of bookmakers will be withdrawing their free bets on the day of the race or at least changing them. The William Hill free bets will be changing on the day of the race and Paddy Power have anounced their free bet will change from bet £10 get £20 free to a bet £20 and get £20 free betting offer. Our advice if you are looking for some Grand National free bets open your new accounts early before the free bet offers are changed.
It isn’t all dome and gloom though for people looking for Grand National betting offers. Many bookies will be trying to entice you to bet with them by increasing the betting value. For example, Blue Square have decided to offer 2 betting offers which will appeal to many betting customers. Firstly, everybody knows the risk of placing your bet early only to find a little later that your horse isn’t running and you lose your money. Well Blue Square as of now will refund your bets on the Grand National if your selection ends up to be a non-runner. They have also decided to pay out on the first 5 places on each way bets for the big race.
Stan James have also decided to get their betting offers out early and they, as Blue Square, have gone no run, no bet. And also along with Blue Square and Paddy Power, Stan James have announced that they will also be paying out on the first 5 places on each way bets.
We are certain as the week goes on there will be more Grand National Free Bets and Betting Offers so we will be keeping our eye out for the best offers and bring them straight to you to help get the best betting balue
