Derby trial gets wildcard boost
The winner of the Investec Derby Trial at Epsom is to be given a wildcard entry into the big race itself over the same course and distance.
Epsom are offering this carrot as well as boosting the total prize fund for the mile-and-a-half test on April 25 by 20,000 to 50,000.
The Surrey track will also increase prize-money for the Investec Oaks from 325,000 to 350,000 and the Diamond Jubilee Coronation Cup (sponsored by Investec) from 250,000 to 300,000.
Epsom managing director Rupert Trevelyan said: “We are delighted to announce an additional investment in the Investec Oaks, which remains the highlight of Investec Ladies Day.
“The Investec Coronation Cup is a race we have targeted for development, so it is pleasing to add 50,000 to its prize fund, particularly in light of its renaming to mark Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee.
“We hope the addition of 20,000 to the Investec Derby Trial will in time help the race reach Listed status.”
